Renowned for its unique leadership development programmes, Common Purpose now offers a brand new way to help you tackle a particular challenge: Pitstops.
The scope and outcome of the training is designed with you to meet your specific needs. Whether over a couple of hours or a couple of days, we can work with you to set a tailored agenda - create a new sense of shared purpose or re-focus and re-energise your team.
How can Common Purpose help your organisation?
Pitstops apply to organisations from all sectors. Your organisation will have its own needs, expressed in your own language. For example, you might be talking about:
- Leadership capability - how to lead across barriers and boundaries, how to influence and lead beyond your authority, how to break down silos in your organisation
- Change management – how to produce change in complex settings, how to maximise the successful outcome of a change programme
- Strategic review or planning sessions that need new or broader horizons or inspiration
- Unlocking innovation in the organisation by looking in new places
- Partnership working – to understand where stakeholders are coming from, and to be able to identify shared purpose
Common Purpose Pitstops can help you address all of these, by applying the Common Purpose approach of pushing leaders outwards; learning from others to gain new insights and broadening your networks and horizons.
Our approach leverages our experience and expertise in designing and delivering win-win, collaborative learning environments. It encourages transformative conversations, enables people to gain new insights and perspectives on issues, inspires innovative solutions and accelerates progress.
How much do Pitstops cost?
The local Common Purpose Director will work with you to ensure we design a solution that meets your needs - and your budget. Common Purpose has run a range of Pitstops for organisations from the public, private and not-for-profit sector. Ability to pay is not a criteria for participation in any of Common Purpose activities.

How are Common Purpose Pitstops run?
Common Purpose has a track record of success at delivering outcomes and uses a wide range of techniques that have been developed and refined over 20 years. Pitstops are highly participative and based on experiential learning. Our techniques include:
- Facilitated conversations/dialogue: We have a proven track record of facilitating high-level, transformative conversations amongst leaders. We use a wide variety of different techniques for this, which include open space technology, appreciative enquiry, café conversations and storytelling.
- Common Purpose Learning Groups, based on the idea of Action Learning Sets, using the sequence of experience, reflection and action.
- Opportunities to learn from conversations with inspiring and challenging leaders who have taken risks and led change in a wide range of contexts e.g. entrepreneurs, faith leaders, school head-teacher, senior police officers etc.
- Behind-the-scenes visits to organisations and frank conversations with senior leaders from organisations outside to learn about their realities of decision-making and leadership.
- Structured reflection time to identify and apply the learning back to your own leadership challenges.
