Tim Wigglesworth, Development Manager, Hull Citybuild

He attended the Hull Matrix 2006-7, and found it to be “a diverse and challenging series of insights into the key issues facing Hull today and in the future."

"The programme seeks out interesting examples to demonstrate these issues and draws upon the personal experiences of speakers and visit hosts to allow those attending to gain a more complete understanding of the critical drivers behind the various organisations involved.”

The programme changed his perceptions of Hull in several ways: “The benefit of having such a wide range of participants drawn from the different sectors of business and society helped to create a fertile breeding ground for exchanging views and thoughts.”

“In terms of my own role, the programme has caused me to reflect more on making sure that I’ve considered all angles before making decisions. Most of my work is geared towards trying to make Hull a better place to live and work in, and sometimes it is easy to forget for a moment that it is all about the people who live and work here. Common Purpose has helped in terms of grounding me again.”

Attending Matrix confirmed his need to have a broad radar: “The regeneration efforts in Hull are about much more than simply building new buildings. Our focus has always been about people and this has been reinforced by, not just my attendance on the Common Purpose programme, but also by that of my colleagues previously. As a consequence our business planning process is much more attuned to ensuring that people come first.”
