Colin McKerracher, Chief Constable, Grampian Police

Colin McKerracher regularly sends employees on Matrix. He says:

“Policing is an increasingly complex business and it is only right that our communities demand the very best from our leaders within the service.

“Indeed, if we are to deliver excellence, we recognise that we must do it through our people and as a consequence, our guiding principles are founded upon valuing our colleagues and investing in the future through education and training.

“Accordingly, Grampian Police has engaged with the Matrix programme for a number of years now in recognition of the opportunities to equip our senior staff with the skills necessary to see context, adapt rapidly to new surroundings and to drive change wherever they are.

“Indeed, not only has this enhanced the network of contacts within which our leaders operate, it has also generated a collaborative energy to bring about change, seeking to leave a legacy of improvements for those who follow.

“Moreover, working with other leaders from diverse backgrounds has undoubtedly helped our own senior staff to better appreciate a wider range of external expectations and influences and this, in turn, has helped us to predict how they may impact.

“Thus, as we develop our vision for the future, I believe that it is crucial that we continue to exploit opportunities for activity which can be shared not only internally, but also across organisations.

“The Matrix programme offers that opportunity and I am very pleased that Grampian Police is a part of it.”
