Frequently asked questions

Can I apply by post rather than online?

You have the option to either apply online or via post (unless we indicate otherwise). Just download the necessary documents and post them to us.

What can I expect at an interview?

You will meet professional and friendly people with lots of questions. Shortlisted candidates are interviewed on a 1:1 basis with the line manager. At this interview we will want to know your career background and whether your skills, experiences and knowledge match our person specification and the role for which you are applying. The preferred candidate will be invited for a final interview. Some jobs may require the candidate to do some ability tests.

What's the difference between a job description and a person specification?

The job description tells the responsibilities of the position. A person specification describes the skills and attributes an individual is required to have to do the job.

Can I apply for more than one role?

Yes, but although the selection criteria may be similar, most posts are very different. Please think about the type of role that will suit you and apply for appropriate vacancies.

What if my application is unsuccessful, can I request feedback?

It is our policy that we do not give feedback to applicants.

Does Common Purpose provide a pension scheme?

Common Purpose provides a stakeholder pension arrangement with Norwich Union to which staff have the option of making a contribution.

What is the annual leave entitlement?

For Co-ordinator/Senior Co-ordinator posts the annual leave entitlement is 20 days for a full-time person and pro rata this for a part-time person. For Manager or Director posts the annual leave entitlement is 25 days for a full-time person and pro rata this for a part-time person. After four years in employment, annual leave entitlement for all posts is increased by five days.

Will Common Purpose pay for me to relocate within the UK?

Common Purpose does not pay for relocation costs.

Can I apply if I don't have a full-time work permit?

No, we can only consider applications from those with a full and valid permit to work in the country in which they are seeking employment.
